LA FIGURA DEL TERRORISTA NELLO SPAZIO GLOBALE CONTEMPORANEO

Andrea Araf e Gioacchino Orsenigo

This article moves from the perceived need of a new critical approach to the present Terrorism’s issue, which should go beyond the current common interpretation offered by the current political and mediatic debates.  As we don’t accept to reduce the problem only to an economic and/or religious matter, we propose a different point of view, trying to highlight some of the criticalities and contradictions of the Western society and contemporary democracies. Therefore, the article builds on the Derrida’s proposal of a critical reinterpretation of Carl Schmitt’s Theorie des Partisanen, suggested by the French author during an interview in 2001, three weeks after the September 11 attacks. Moving from the problematic definition of Terrorism, the authors try to show its arbitrary and political use. Analyzing the affinity of the contemporary terrorist to the partisan and revolutionary figures, as Schmitt describe them, we try to connect it to the global context and to emphasize its contemporary character.
