Democracy is power of the people. To rethink democracy one must define and explain how the people can exercise its power, within which limits and through which forms. Economic inequalities are the most threatening challenge to contemporary democracies. The wealthy ones may subvert democracy and transform it into a plutocracy. It is up to the citizens themselves to rethink democracy and make it better by becoming interested in politics, well-informed, participant and capable of organizing parties and movements as buffers against the power of the wealthy.
