LACAN E DOLTO. UN CONFRONTO

Silvia Marchesoli

The present article seeks to examine and compare the work and psychoanalytic practice of Jacques Lacan and Françoise Dolto, with particular attention to the fundamental concept of the body image. Whereas Lacan aligns himself with the millennia-old primacy of vision — conceiving, through his celebrated formulation of the mirror stage, the image as primarily visual — Dolto, by contrast, engages more profoundly with the notion of an image that is plastic, dynamic, and deeply rooted in a corporeality and a psyche in continuous becoming.
