«SAPIENZA OCCULTA». DUE NOTE SULLA MAGIA CAMPANELLIANA
Ilenia Russo
This paper examines some features of Tommaso Campanella’s theory of magic. First, it considers the various stages of composition and revision of Campanella’s main work on the subject, Del senso delle cose e della magia, on the one hand focusing on the differences between the Italian text (around 1604) and the following Latin translations (1620; 1636-1637), on the other hand highlighting the existing link between the work on magic too in the XIVth book of the Theologicorum libri. Consequently, it addresses Campanella’s understanding of spirit, soul and motion, pointing out the role of these concepts in his idea of magical action.
