VISIONI BALCANICHE
PROBLEMI DI MESSA A FUOCO DELL’IDEA DI EUROPA
Matteo Canevari
Contemporary philosophy is attempting to devise a clear idea of Europe, which is one of his most important aim today. The article pose a question about that: “what does it mean to have a concept for Europe?” A common way to answer is to say that philosophers should rediscover the fundamental values and principles on which the European conscience is based. On the contrary, following Michel Foucault’s thought, the article affrm that we need also to analyze the practices of speech through which Europe created his borders, in present times and in the past. The problem of the geographical localization of the Balkan region is a perfect case study on this. The Yugoslavian’s war in the Nineteens, the frst “post bipolar world” confict, is only the last example of the different interests involved in defning territorial borders of such a strategical region. In the same way, European identity is based on the management of his internal and external borders in a new, democratic way, keeping distance to other global powers such as USA or Russia. According to Etienne Balibar ’s opinion, the writing propose the idea of Europe as “Vanishing Mediator”, considering the practice of translation the deep European essence.
